DENNIS HOPPER FILM SERIES

The Cinefamily, in association with The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA), and Los Angeles Filmforum on the occasion of the exhibition Dennis Hopper Double Standard, presents a month-long retrospective of Hopper’s most famous and infamous film works—along with lesser-known treasures—that celebrates his decades-spanning, wide-ranging career of searing performances and ambitiously idiosyncratic directorial efforts.

In conjunction with the Dennis Hopper Film Series, Los Angeles Filmforum presents Warhol/Hopper: Films by Andy Warhol featuring Dennis Hopper, screening Warhol’s Screen Tests Reel #4 (1964–65, 16mm, approx. 40 min., silent, b&w, 18 fps) andTarzan and Jane Regained… Sort Of (1964, 16mm, 80 min., color, sound). Tarzan and Jane Regained… Sort Of is a playful avant-garde parody of the classic Tarzan films of the 1930s and ’40s featuring Taylor Mead as Tarzan, Naomi Levine as Jane, Dennis Hopper, Irving Blum, Claes Oldenburg, Brooke Hayward, and Andy Warhol. This rarely seen film was shot in Los Angeles in October 1963 while Warhol was in town for his second exhibition at Ferus Gallery.
