Please join us in screening this amazing film and welcoming co-producer
Helen Mendoza, Reverend Larry Keene and Rabbi Bryan Mayer to campus.

The screening of the film "For the Bible tells me so," followed by a
panel will be next
Thursday, October 9th from 7-10pm at the Center for Gender Equity
(Stewie hall lower lounge.)
This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Religious and Spiritual
Life, Center for Gender Equity, Department of English and Writing, Queer
Straight Alliance and the Remsen Bird Fund.

FILM SYNOPSIS

Can the love between two people ever be an abomination? Is the chasm
separating gays and lesbians and Christianity too wide to cross? Is the
Bible an excuse to hate?

Through the experiences of five very normal, very Christian, very
American families -- including those of former House Majority Leader
Richard Gephardt and Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson -- we discover how
insightful people of faith handle the realization of having a gay child.
Informed by such respected voices as Bishop Desmond Tutu, Harvard's
Peter Gomes, Orthodox Rabbi Steve Greenberg and Reverend Jimmy Creech,
FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO offers healing, clarity and understanding to
anyone caught in the crosshairs of scripture and sexual identity.

Robert Greenwald is coming to Oxy!

We want you to know that the political activist, Robert Greenwald, is coming to Oxy Thursday night, 10/9, at 7:30 p.m. to talk about using new media to create social change. His online videos are a vibrant part of today's liberal political landscape, yet he will be addressing the larger topic of how media can create social change. Because details for this visit were just nailed down, we're writing to alert you to this fast-approaching event that will be of such big interest to Oxy and neighboring communities that Greenwald will be speaking in Thorne. We ask your help in getting the word out about Greenwald's visit since there is such a short window until his talk.

This is a featured CSP 99 event.

Thanks for your help in spreading the word--If you have any questions, please contact Katie Mills (mills@oxy.edu or x2784) or Colleen Sharkey (sharkey@oxy.edu or x1406)

Oxy's library has almost all of Greenwald's DVDS, but you and your students can view the many free, short, online videos at
